Patient-centred outcomes of cataract surgery in Australia.

چکیده
Pager et al. should be commended for attempting the challenging global cataract surgery outcome study reported in the August issue of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology . 1 The inclusion of visual disability, quality of life and satisfaction measures is an important approach that, as the authors state, has rarely been made. Patientcentred measures are needed where impairment is not fully captured by clinical measures. High contrast visual acuity (VA) may fail to fully characterize visual impairment because it is relatively insensitive to optical degradation due to cataract. 2,3 However, the validity of VA as an outcome measure depends upon methodology; detection of change depends upon retest reliability. Factors affecting the retest reliability of VA include chart type (Snellen, logMAR), scoring system (by-line, by-letter), forced-choice testing and endpoint criterion. 4

Measuring outcomes of cataract surgery using the Visual Function Index-14.
PURPOSE To determine which version of the Visual Function Index-14 (VF-14) most precisely measured cataract surgery outcomes, rescale the VF-14 using Rasch analysis, and create a short-form version for comparison. SETTING Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. METHODS In this cohort study incorporating questionnaire development, participants were drawn from the catar...
متن کاملComparison of Anesthesia with Sevoflurane and Propofol on Extubation time and Recovery Parameters During Cataract Surgery
Background: One of the most common outpatient surgeries is cataract surgery which requires a short anesthesia with fast recovery time providing minimal complications. This study aimed to compare sevoflurane with propofol in terms of extubation time and recovery parameters in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Materials and Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial recruited 60 ...

BACKGROUND To determine alignment of proposed international standard outcomes sets for ophthalmic conditions to metrics currently reported by eye hospitals. METHODS Mixed methods comparative benchmark study, including eight eye hospitals in Australia, India, Singapore, Sweden, U.K., and U.S. All are major international tertiary care and training centers in ophthalmology. Main outcome measure ...
متن کاملUsing Rasch analysis to revisit the validity of the Cataract TyPE Spec instrument for measuring cataract surgery outcomes.
PURPOSE To assess the psychometric properties of the Cataract TyPE Specification (Spec) questionnaire using the Rasch model. SETTING Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia. METHODS The 12-item Cataract TyPE Spec questionnaire was self-administered to patients drawn from the cataract surgery waiting list. The questionnaire and its 5 subscales were assessed for fit to the Rasch model. R...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effect of nasal fentanyl in comparison with intravenous fentanyl in cataract surgery by phacoemulsification method
Background: The risk of anesthesia increases with age, so it is necessary to choose a safe and effective method. In this study, we compared the effectiveness of intranasal fentanyl with intravenous fentanyl in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Methods: This study was a triple-blind prospective randomized clinical trial (The patient, physician, and data analyzer were unaware of the patient ...
